The Games We Play is a weekly feature about what has been going on in our gaming lives. Tell us what you've been playing in the comments.
Terry: For the past week I was just killing time with some average games, until today. Like the gaming gigolo/Achievement Point whore that I am, I used Fight Night Round 4 and Prototype to keep me busy while I waited for...The Beatles: Rock Band.
I'm the world's biggest Beatles fan. Its in a Guiness book somewhere, I swear. My mom's from Liverpool and I was born across the river Mersey in Warrington. The first music I can recall hearing is an 8-track tape (yes, I'm that old) of With the Beatles. Anyway, when Beatles Rock Band came in the mail, I dressed up my wife as Yoko Ono (I even said so on Twitter, yet another reason to follow me on it) and unleashed my inner John Lennon. I've always enjoyed music/rhythm games, but this? Out of this world! Game of the year in my opinion, but I'm obviously biased.
Ian: With grad school getting underway, I haven't had much time for gaming this week.
I did play some Arkham Asylum, but didn't get as far into it as I would of liked. I am surprised by the open world parts of the game. It doesn't seem like they serve much of a purpose except to find Riddler clues. I am digging the game a lot and can't wait to play more.
I also had a chance to play some of Gameloft's Castle of Magic. It is on sale for only 99 cents and I recommend picking it up. It is a platformer, akin to Mario, with super simple controls. It looks great on the device as well.
Sean: It wasn't a very adventurous week for me in the gaming world. I played Wii Sports Resort at a friend's house for hours on end, learning archery, frisbee golf and the etiquette on 3-point shootouts. The game is unbelievably addicting and that proved obvious when four hours went by before I even took a breather.
Gears of War 2, Madden 10 and Tiger Woods 10 were in the mix as well. Then again, that's nothing new. I found my original Game Boy, the newer Game Boy Color and the even more recent Game Boy Advance in an old draw since returning home from school. And Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow? Dare I find some batteries and start it up? Please tell me I shouldn't. Someone, honestly, please comment and tell me I'm crazy.
Jay: My retail games are again neglected. I have been short on funds, so it’s downloadables and free browser games for me.
I have been playing lots of Mr. Driller W on WiiWare, and actually enjoy it. I have also been playing some 3-2-1, Rattle Battle!, which feels kinda’ like a trimmed down WarioWare.
Aside from that, it’s browser games as I try to find a candidate for Flash Game of the Month. Mafia Wars, a browser-based game played through social networking sites (Facebook, MySpace...) is pretty high on my list right now. It’s very addictive.
