The Games We Play is a weekly feature about what has been going on in our gaming lives. Leave us your games journal in the comments.
Terry: Much to my surprise I managed to play quite a few games this week. I finished the single player in Halo Wars, played a few levels of RE:5, beat the last level of Fallout 3 (in anticipation of Broken Steel) and I'm inching my way towards the 100 point "Purist" achievement in FIFA 09.
I'm going to be in England at the end of the month, so I'm loading up my PSP with Syphon Filter and Crash Bandicoot games. But man, I sure do wish I could download other PS1 classics. I'd pay big money to play Metal Gear Solid on my PSP.
Ian: Got a chance to start Fallout 3 but I've only played it for under an hour. Just got out of the vault and liking it very much so far. Bought Outrun Online Arcade and love the pick up and play nature of the game. It's nice to have an arcade racer on the hard drive without having to get up and change the disc!
iPod Touch gaming has been dedicated to Flight Control and Catcha Mouse, which I talked about last week. I just downloaded Drop7 Lite, which I've been hearing good things about. Look for my impressions next week.
Sean: Gears of War 2 has become more addictive than ever, as I find myself pumping out four hours of multiplayer madness before even realizing how long I've been sitting still playing. I've also never been more upset with three things that relate to the game: the glitches Cliffy B fails to fix, host shotgun, and people who actually still use a lancer and chainsaw constantly with it. If you don't start with a hammerbust, you're garbage and don't show your skill (if any) whatsoever.
Also this week I dusted off some old Playstation games and hit the half pipes (not sure why) with Grind Session, Tony Hawk's series and even Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX. The Tony Hawk games may possibly be some of the most fun games to play of all time -- and the achievements/secrets you need to find never get old.
Andrew: X-Men Origins: Wolverine comes out in theatres today and I will hold my tongue on the film, the game however I have to praise. There isn’t anything better than a good action game with decent controls and some hardcore gameplay elements that will make you as giddy as a school girl. Who doesn’t want to take a pilot out of a chopper by stabbing him then holding his head up to the blades only to decapitate him in a shower of blood! Yeah, it is brutal, but good.
This week seemed like it was going to be a good week for demos. Well the demo for the Bionic Commando multiplayer is ok; it’s just that I need to work on the swinging mechanic. That seems to be everyone’s downfall at first. But after some practice I’m sure I will get the hang of it. The biggest disappointment for me was the Marvel Vs Capcom 2 demo for PS3. I was so stocked that the demo was coming out that I wanted to leave work early the second it updated on the PSN store. Unfortunately the demo is only for 2 player local play. I can’t even play the demo! What was Sony thinking? Even the Street Fighter beta had an online mode to try out. This was a bad decision on Sony’s part. This exclusive wasn’t even worth whatever they did to get it.
