The Games We Play is a weekly feature about what has been going on in our gaming lives. Leave us your games journal in the comments.

Terry: Pretty good gaming week for me. I enjoyed OutRun Online Arcade, passed the 60,000 Gamerscore mark, and resumed playing Resident Evil 5. Well, I guess 2 out of 3 ain't bad. Unlike most gamers, RE:5 just doesn't do it for me. I want to like it, I really do, but it has some major issues that make it an exercise in frustration - the controls are completely counter-intuitive. Playing RE:5 is just like playing the first Resident Evil. I'm as nostalgic as the next gamer, but how about updating the controls, its not 1996 anymore.

Not being able to shoot or reload and move at the same time, an off-set (and therefore inaccurate) targeting system, having the sprint button on the same stick in which you move, and having to use TWO buttons to work a knife just plain sucks.

Ian: Extremely light week of gaming this week so hopefully me cohorts are exciting enough for you. Booted up the 360 to play a game or two of the never-gets-old XBLA game, NHL Arcade. Got destroyed playing online but still had fun. Still no time to get into the backlog due to schoolwork but I hope to borrow Fallout 3 from a friend before the end of the semester.

On the iPod Touch front, I tried Catcha Mouse, a free puzzle game. Similar in a way to checkers, the object is to trap the mouse. With a seemingly endless number of downloads and the free pricetag, it's definitely worth a try. I also bought the #2 game on the App Store, Flight Control. Simple gameplay with interesting touch controls make this a worthwhile download as well.

Sean: I vowed to myself to pick up Resident Evil 5 this week and beat it in one sitting with a very good friend of mine on co-op, no breaks, no excuses -- just the lights off, the volume cranked up and the HD graphics flashing in my eyes. And we did it. He was Chris and I was Sheva. I just have to say: what a video game. They really did it right this time, as I've been a tad let down with them in the past. Although the storyline can be a bit cheesy and predictable, it's worth every bit of your time. Play it on co-op -- there is no other way to go. Also, I finally downloaded the new GoW2 maps and did the update, noticing they put numbered rankings next to gamertags. I went from a 1 to a 15 in two hours. I'm set on getting to a 50 by tonight. Ride N Die 43 -- that's my tag -- hit me up and let's ride.

Andrew: This week was very light for me as well. After Reviewing Crystal Defense R1 for Wii and Xeno Arena for XNA all I really played on console was Left4Dead. The survivor mode hit and my buddy and I played that all night long and had a blast definitely got us pumped for the two new campaign's coming out soon. We will just have to see what the price tag will be on those two when they hit.

That was pretty much it for console games. I have been playing a lot more on my DS than I thought I would be but I got some good games and they have me hooked. GTA: Chinatown Wars is one of them. It has a wonderful design about it and works very well on the DS. The other game is Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure. I am a fan of plat formers and puzzle games so this is a great mix of the two. It gets very hard towards the end but don't let it discourage you.

Once again Sean and I disagree on something.

I know the controls become less annoying after you get used to them but I still think they weaken the game. In contrast to RE:5 is Metal Gear Solid. While MGS also has an unusual control scheme they actually make the game feel unique and seem to serve a purpose because Snake carries so many items. I don't feel that way about RE:5's controls.

We'll never agree on anything, Terry. I hope you've come to realize that. We were made to clash on virtually everything. But I definitely see where you're coming from -- the controls are whack and set up so ungodly poorly. I am so used to Gears of War's perfect 3rd person set up and ability to fire weapons and switch back and forth easily. I'll never get used to anything else, because I'm always in GoW mode. I loved the game of RE:5 overall, and saw a lot of good in it, but yes, it's weak in major areas. Definitely worth it though.

Why are people so up in arms about this control scheme. Its made to be this way cause of how slow zombies (infected) are suppose to be. Yes they can run but not very much because of the decaying bodies. But Chris and Leon or whoever you play as in the Resident Evil Games utilize precision aiming, which is hard to do in a run and gun motion. Your suppose to make precise shots with the gun to take out an enemy not gun them down to a bloody pulp. I suppose its because I have played all the RE games that im use to this and feel right at home with it. So many newcomers are giving the WTF approach to it. But I still say despite that its an amazing title and has the best co-op play of any game out today.

Why are people up in arms about the control scheme? Because it sucks. I've been playing Resident Evil games since the first one came out, so I'm no "newcomer". I just like intuitive controls. Sure gamers can get used to it, but why should they? It takes away from the fun of the game. And again, MGS is a legitimate comparison. Both have unique schemes, but one works to the benefit of the game, the other doesn't.

Is RE:5 still fun? Yes. Amazing? No way.
