Back in the day "R-Type" had everything fans of side scrolling shooters could ask for. Tons of enemies, space aliens, and a difficulty that makes trigonometry look easy!
Well now you can relive all that pain and anguish on Xbox Live arcade with the re-release of the first two chapters of the R-Type series. Revamped and supped up, these two titles will give you bang for your buck guaranteed, provided your into old school shooters. But this is no walk in the park, you will have some issues with the games difficulty. It will chew you up and spit you out like there is no tomorrow. So be prepared and get your thumbs ready.

Shooters don't usually have much of a story and this one is no exception. But story is not what is important here, it's a mindless button masher and that is all it needs to be, that's what makes it so fun. What you get instead is 16 levels, about 8 levels to play through on each game, to ravage and destroy everything possible. This will not be an easy run through. You will probably have to play the levels multiple times to memorize enemy patterns in order to advance upon the next stage.
But you don't have to do it alone, a multiplayer feature has been added to allow you and a buddy to take on this beast of a game. Even then you both will have to come up with a strategy in order to defeat the enemies, so memorization is still a major part of this game. You will need to get down patterns in order to defeat bosses and certain enemy types. But no worries on the life expectancy, you can play the traditional three lives or change it to allow you to have infinite lives, whichever one you prefer. On top of that you do have power-ups at your disposal. You can have missiles, grenades, lasers and a few other weapons at your disposal to help you control enemy flow.
