Silent Hill titles are infamous for providing its gamers with bone-chilling sound effects, intense killing opportunities and edge-of-your-seat game play. But on an iPhone/iPod Touch, it would interesting to see if Konami could keep those consistent themes going with the new mobile application available for $7.99.
After awaking groggy in a pitch-black hospital with just a flashlight and handgun, you quickly realize that faceless nurses and other creatures don't want to play a childish game of "check up." They're out to destroy you, unless, of course, you pump them full of lead first. The title is essentially a maze game where you must follow the undetailed map to the next door -- finding flashlight batteries and keys on your way.
The controls are jenky, forcing you to tap the screen, bringing up a d-pad which allows you to move any direction by swiping your finger whichever way you choose. Sounds easy, but it takes some getting used to and doesn't allow for very fast game play.
Graphical design is less than stellar within game play and the sounds aren't intimidating unless you pop your ear buds in and crank up the volume. To shoot, tilt your iPhone to move the crosshairs and then tap the bullet icon to fire. Reloading your gun every five shots is accomplished by lining up the rounds to the gun holes and tapping the screen -- a weird concept.
Then again, you really won't have to fret too much about staying alive. The game is not too challenging in slaying the enemies but it is frustrating when you get turned around within maps. Not to mention, the game gets repetitive and doesn't have much replay value, especially for a more expensive iPhone DLC.
Verdict: Pass
