Well it's about that time again, where we kiss goodbye to one year and say hello to another. We here at GamePro Arcade want to go out in style by presenting out top download's of 2008. We're going to break down each of our categories and select a few titles from each. We have compiled the best of the best, and are presenting the must haves to ring in the New Year.
Geometry Wars 2 (Xbox 360) - With great visuals and quirky game types, Geometry Wars 2 is a must have for the 360 line up. A great sequel to its predecessor, this title adds more of what you loved about the first, plus more. Featuring numerous types of gameplay and updated graphics this is a great title. At 800 points, its a steal.
Street Fighter II Turbo HD REMIX (Xbox 360/PS3) - Quite possible one of the best iterations of this franchise. Street Fighter II Turbo is one of the classic fighters of the 90's. Now that it has been remade and supped up in HD, its got fanboy's mouths watering all over again. With Street Fighter 4 around the corner this is a perfect time to get back into the series. This was an easy pick due to its popularity and its overall great game play. At 1200 points, don't pass this up for one more second.
Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty (PS3) - Following right where Tools of Destruction left off, Quest for Booty puts you in the shoes of Ratchet in his desperate attempt to find his good buddy Clank. For the price tag of $15 you a get a good 4-5 hours of gameplay to tide you over until the next installment of the series. Not only is this one of the best DLC titles for the PS3 its one of the best add-ons for a game in a really long time.
PixelJunk Monsters (PS3) - Tower Defense is a growing genre that is being copied pretty much by everyone. But PixelJunk Monsters takes what tower defense does well and it exceeds at it, with countless hours of gameplay and replay value that will keep you coming back for more. PJMonsters is a must have with the low $9.99 price tag.
Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People (Wii) - A sleeper hit on the Wii, Strong Bad is one of those games you tell your friends about. One of the funniest games in years that uses the point and click gameplay style to perfection, Strong bad is not one to miss. The series just ended its first quintupology. Could Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People...Too be in the works? Hopefully.
Mega Man 9 (Wii) - Mega Man, one of the best series of our generation, had its 9th installment grace the Wii this year. We can only hope for the same love for the previous 8. The Wii version features the best solid controls and one of the first ever female bosses (Splash Women). Mega Man 9 features classic retro gaming and an insane difficulty, without worrying about visuals or a big story line.
Audiosurf (PC) - Known for its cool visualizations and gameplay that's part Rock Band, part Wipeout, Audiosurf is something everyone needs to give a try. A rhythm title where gamers can literally play to their own music tracks is a rarity for the genre. A cheap price and hours of gameplay will keep you tied up to your PC for hours.
Combat Arms (PC) - A free MMOFPS? Yep, that is what Combat Arms offers up for you. You can purchase select upgrades as well, but the overall game is free and fun to play. With its Counter Strike style and its growing fan base, you need to have this installed on your PC. Especially since the system requirements are not too demanding everyone can play.
Spore (iPhone) - The basic building blocks for its big brother SPORE, the mobile version takes the basics of the console version and puts them on your iPhone and iPod Touch. The game has beautiful visuals and easy to use controls, if you own an Apple product you need to own this game.
Sim City (iPhone) - SimCity is a timeless game. It never gets old and never becomes stale. With tons of things to do and a myriad of ways to play, you will never tire of this game. Simple controls make this easy to use and will drain hours without you knowing it.
